In our ongoing journey towards a more sustainable production, in 2022, we initiated a pilot project with select products from our collection, which we had internally referred to as "Production on Demand", but we can now simply call it "On Demand".
The products selected for this project were made to have "infinite stocks" in our store, as even those we didn’t have ready for sale, we could fulfill by manufacturing it on demand.
This change brought the need for some adaptations in our production processes, taught us a lot about our supply chain, and since then, we felt increasingly comfortable expanding the products available through this on-demand production.
We, as a business, greatly benefit from a production that becomes ever more accurate, our customers benefit by having constant access to our full range of products and we all win together with the optimization that this production method brings us.
With on-demand production, our company can maintain minimal stocks, making it easier for the release of new products.
On-demand production avoids overproduction of products in batches, thereby reducing potential waste of raw materials, energy, and water used in manufacturing.
Since on-demand production minimizes the need for batch production, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to the entire industrial process, including material transport to our company.
Products made on demand can be quickly improved. That means we can apply enhancements to each and every pair produced. This prevents potential issues from spreading across production batches, minimizing the possibility of encountering unsellable products, thus also reducing waste and disposal.
Purchasing on demand can also encourage more conscious consumption, as customers carefully consider their purchases and avoid impulsive buying, reducing overconsumption.
It’s important to note that our goal is not to completely eliminate our stocks, as having read-to-ship products in stock allows us to meet "urgent" demands for example, and also allow the maintenance of a steady production pace in our factory, something crucial for cost optimization.
We are far from perfection and that is of course not our intention.
Our commitment is to constant improvement and this is another significant step on our journey towards a healthier and more balanced planet, benefiting not only us but all forms of life that share this home.
